BelAir Convertible Fire Damage Repair and Upgrades
While most of our restoration work is the product of a dream in progress, this
job began as a nightmare. This '57 Chevy was the victim of an engine fire. The
entire engine compartment went up in flames in the owner's garage.
In addition to damaging the engine compartment, the fire crossed into the dash,
doing more damage there. Wires melted, paint burnt, and rubber was destroyed
from the nose to the dash board.
The love for this car, the value of '57 convertibles, and a good insurance
policy landed this car in our shop. Insurance covered the fire damage and the
owner contributed to upgrades during the process.
Having saved the car for many years with little use, the owner felt compelled to
upgrade a few of the systems on the car and start using it more. Added during
restoration are a MSD electronic ignition, air conditioning, power steering,
power disc brakes, an overdrive automatic transmission, a tilt steering column,
a set of wide white wall radials, and all of her finishes repaired to the extent
that no fire damage will ever be evident.
