1971 International Harveston Scout - Restore or Bust!
Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained
When a New York State resident flew into Baton Rouge, Louisiana to make his way
to Crowley, Louisiana his intentions were to drive a 1971 International Scout II
back to New York.
An overly rich fuel system and a leaky exhaust system produced enough carbon
monoxide to run all living things out of the passenger compartment in a very few
miles.
A quick internet search of automotive restorers in Louisiana produced
SelectMotors.Net.
It was Select Motor Company to the rescue, picking up this no so road ready
vehicle, allowing this adventurous traveler a chance to initiate a restoration
in Louisiana and to fly home to New York without incident.
The general plan was to build a high performance four wheel drive that was user
friendly and practical to maintain.
To kick this project off the body was disassembled for stripping. Our baking,
chemical stripping and e-coating process would be necessary to remove multiple
paint jobs, spray in bed liners, body fillers and rust.
The scout chassis will then be available to mount on a chassis gig to modify for
its new drive train and suspension.
